On Sunday, May 25, 2025, a historic event took place at Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology, located in Bhairab, Kishoreganj district, with the grand inauguration of the Japanese Language Centre.
At the beginning of the ceremony, the esteemed Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Mr. Md. Ashek-Al-Aziz, presented a brief overview of the university along with a presentation on the Japanese Language Centre.
The Honourable Vice-Chancellor (Acting) of the university, Professor Dr. Muhammad Azizul Hoque, in his welcome speech, said:
“The Honourable Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, valiant freedom fighter Dr. H. B. M. Iqbal, has undertaken this noble initiative to spread the light of higher education in his birthplace, Banshgari — a unique example of patriotism. The university began its academic activities in July 2024. Although it is relatively new, it is among the first universities in the country to implement an outcome-based curriculum from its inception. I am hopeful that this centre will play a crucial role in enhancing students’ skills and preparing them to become global citizens.”
The Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Sylhet International University, Professor Dr. Md. Ashraful Alam, who was also present at the event, stated:
“The initiative to establish a Japanese Language Centre at this university is very timely and will serve as a model for other universities in the country. I believe students here will benefit from it in the long run.”
The university’s Honourable Advisor, Dr. Emadul Islam, remarked:
“Japan holds a top position globally in education, research, and technology. By learning this language, students can open new doors to higher education and professional opportunities in Japan.”
Mr. Jamal G. Ahmed, a respected member of the Board of Trustees, highlighted the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Japan in his speech. He emphasized:
“We must ensure that students gain the maximum benefit from the centre’s activities.”
The Chief Guest of the event, Ms. Maho Nakayama, the respected Director of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan, warmly welcomed the timely initiative to establish a university-based Japanese Language Centre. She highlighted its promising potential and expressed her best wishes for its overall success.
The event was presided over by Mr. Mohammad Imran Iqbal, an honourable member of the University’s Board of Trustees. In his remarks, he said:
“The noble objective behind the establishment of this centre can only be realized through active cooperation from all.” He expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the event, especially those who worked tirelessly to make it a success.
Also present at the event were the university’s Registrar and Deans; representatives including the Head of Brand Marketing from Premier Bank PLC; distinguished academics; the Principal of Zillur Rahman Premier Bank School & College; local dignitaries, teachers, students, staff, and members of the media.”
