History

History

Bangladesh aspires to transition into a developed nation by the year 2041. A critical component of this vision is the development of skilled human resources, particularly through enhanced focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. Despite having established approximately 115 private universities since independence, only a few specialize in STEM, and the interest in STEM fields among students is notably declining. This decline is exacerbated by the significant brain drain affecting the young generation.

In response to these challenges, Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology was founded in 2021 by Dr. H. B. M. Iqbal, a renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist. MUST aims to reverse the current trends by establishing a world-class STEM-focused university that is accessible to marginalized communities, particularly in the wetlands of Bangladesh.

Vision and Mission

MUST envisions becoming a leading institution in STEM education, recognized globally for its quality and commitment to social responsibility. The university's mission is to provide an inclusive, environmentally sustainable educational environment that prepares graduates for successful careers, thereby directly contributing to the socio-economic development of Bangladesh.

Advisor’s Comment on Establishing Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology as a World-Class, Environmentally Friendly Institution

"As we strive to establish Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology as a world-class institution, our mission must be rooted in a commitment to environmental sustainability, 100% placement opportunities, and the active involvement of Non-Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) scholars to uplift marginalized communities.

Creating an environmentally friendly university is not just an aspiration but a necessity. We must lead by example in building a campus that embodies sustainable practices such as using renewable energy, promoting zero-waste initiatives, and integrating green technologies. Our curriculum should also reflect this commitment, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to tackle the pressing environmental challenges of our time. By fostering a culture of sustainability and environmental stewardship, we will inspire our students to become the next generation of eco-conscious leaders who will drive positive change, not only in Bangladesh but globally.

Equally important is our goal to provide 100% placement opportunities for our graduates. This can be achieved through strategic partnerships with industry leaders, creating robust internship and co-op programs, and establishing entrepreneurial incubators that encourage innovation and job creation. By ensuring that our students are equipped with practical skills and real-world experience, we will empower them to secure meaningful employment and contribute effectively to the economy. Our focus will be on developing career-ready graduates who are not only employable but also adaptable to the evolving demands of the global job market.

Moreover, the inclusion of Non-Resident Bangladeshi (NRB) scholars will be a cornerstone of our strategy to support and empower marginalized communities. These scholars bring a wealth of global experience, diverse perspectives, and a deep commitment to the development of Bangladesh. By involving them in our academic and research programs, we can bridge the gap between international expertise and local needs. This collaboration will enable us to develop community-driven solutions that address the unique challenges faced by marginalized groups, such as access to quality education, healthcare, and sustainable livelihoods. By doing so, we will create a university that not only excels academically but also serves as a catalyst for social equity and inclusion.

By prioritizing environmental sustainability, guaranteeing 100% placement opportunities, and leveraging the expertise of Non-Resident Bangladeshi scholars to uplift marginalized communities, Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology will set a new standard for higher education in Bangladesh. We are committed to building a university that is not only a hub of academic excellence but also a force for positive social and environmental change.
