A significant discussion meeting organized by the Bangladesh Pharmacy Council was held on 16 October 2025

The meeting was attended by the Chairmen of the Trustee Boards of various renowned private universities in Bangladesh, honorable Vice-Chancellors, Heads of Pharmacy Departments, the Health Secretary, and leading figures in pharmacy education.

Representing Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology, Professor Dr. A. F. M. Nazmus Sadat, Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy, participated in the event.

During the session, detailed discussions were held on the future directions of pharmacy education in Bangladesh. It was highlighted that within the next five to six years, at least 200,000 graduate pharmacists will be required to serve in retail and model pharmacies across the country.
The Honorable Health Secretary Md Saidur Rahman assured all participants that the process of creating approximately 2,000 hospital pharmacist positions in government hospitals is already underway, and recruitment will begin soon.

He further emphasized that the government is actively considering the introduction of a “BCS Pharmacy Cadre,” similar to other existing health cadres.

During the open discussion session, representatives from various esteemed universities proposed increasing student intake capacity and establishing a Central Research Laboratory under the supervision of the Bangladesh Pharmacy Council.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Mahbubul Haque, Secretary of the Bangladesh Pharmacy Council; Mr. Naser Shahriar Zahid, a distinguished industrialist; Professor Dr. Chowdhury Mahmud Hasan, former Dean of the Department of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka; and Professor Dr. Abdur Rashid. They shared their valuable insights and recommendations regarding the advancement of pharmacy education and the enhancement of professional competencies in the field.
