A day-long seminar on increasing awareness about dengue prevention and a free health service campaign were held on Tuesday (2 December 2025) at Rafiqul Islam Mohila College in Bhairab, Kishoreganj, organized by Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology. The program was inaugurated by the Acting Principal of the college, Mr. Md. Shahidullah, and Professor Dr. A.F.M. Nazmus Sadat, Dean of the Faculty of Science at the university.

In his inaugural speech, Acting Principal Mr. Md. Shahidullah said, “Dengue has become a national challenge today. Only the combined efforts of teachers, students, and parents can help overcome this challenge. I believe such educational campaigns will play a vital role in increasing students’ health awareness.”

Throughout the day-long campaign, students were given detailed guidance on identifying dengue symptoms, ways to eliminate stagnant water, environmentally friendly living, prevention of waterborne diseases, and what to do in emergency situations.

Following the health camp, a seminar titled “Awareness for Dengue Prevention” was held. Presided over by Acting Principal Mr. Md. Shahidullah, the seminar featured a presentation by the Key Note Speaker, Professor Dr. A.F.M. Nazmus Sadat, Dean of the Faculty of Science. The Chief Guest, Acting Registrar of the university Mr. Md. Zakir Hossain, said, “Dengue prevention is not the responsibility of a single institution; coordinated efforts by families, communities, and educational institutions can bring effective solutions. Students can play the most crucial role in spreading awareness in society.”

Among others present were the University’s Proctor and Chairman of the Business Administration Department, Mr. Abdur Rashid; Assistant Professor of the Pharmacy Department, Ms. Afroza Sultana; and lecturers of Rafiqul Islam Mohila College—Mr. Abdur Rouf, Mr. Mahfuz Ahmed, Mr. Mofizul Islam, and Ms. Mahmuda Begum. The seminar was conducted by Mr. M.A. Baki Billah, Administrative Officer of Dr. Momtaz Begum University of Science and Technology.

During the day-long health camp, students received free blood group testing, blood pressure and weight measurement, along with general health check-ups. They also received immediate health advice. To ensure the success of the campaign, the scout team led by the college’s physical education teacher, Ms. Parvin Sultana, played an important role.

In his inaugural speech, Principal Professor Md. Moniruzzaman said—
“There is no alternative to awareness in preventing dengue. Especially if college-going youths become conscious themselves, they can play an important role within their families and communities. Today’s campaign will help students gain practical knowledge and develop preventive practices.”

Acting Registrar Mr. Md. Zakir Hossain of DMBU said—
“Dengue is a fully preventable disease. To raise awareness among students about correct information, preventive measures, and timely treatment, we are regularly organizing college-based programs through our Social Awareness Club. Similar social and health awareness activities will continue in the future.”

Throughout the daylong campaign, students were informed about identifying dengue symptoms, keeping homes clean, preventing waterborne diseases, ensuring a safe environment, and steps to take in emergencies.

Additionally, students received free services including blood group testing, blood pressure measurement, weight check, and general health examinations. Participants were also able to receive immediate health consultations from medical professionals present at the camp.

In honor of this national success, a special reception ceremony was organized today at the university’s Digital Conference Room. All members of the award-winning teams were formally felicitated for their outstanding performance.

The event was graced by the Honorable Vice Chancellor (Acting), Professor Dr. Muhammad Azizul Hoque, as the Chief Guest. University Registrar Md. Zakir Hossain attended as the Special Guest. The ceremony was chaired by Prof. Dr. A F M Nazmus Sadat, Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Director of IQAC, DMB University.

During the ceremony, the members of both SQCC teams shared their experiences, learnings, and the journey behind winning national recognition. Faculty deans, department chairmen, teachers, students, administrative personnel, and other staff were present to congratulate and encourage the teams.

Achievements at 15NAQCE

This year’s 15NAQCE was convened by Prof. Dr. A F M Nazmus Sadat, who also delivered the keynote paper titled “Sustainability Through a Quality Culture in Education: A Framework for Institutional Resilience and Enduring Relevance.”
Additionally, Ms. Afroza Sultana, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy, presented a technical paper titled “Making Every Student a Quality Auditor for Institutional Longevity” and served as a judge in the panel discussion segment.

Pharma Quality Circle (PQC) – Gold Award
Presented the case study: “Arranging a Successful Health Camp at Bhairab Boishakhi Mela.”

MUST Cultural Quality Circle – Silver Award
Presented the case study: “Arranging an Educational Study Tour to the Srimangal Tea Garden.”

The two teams were facilitated by Ms. Afroza Sultana and Dr. Md. Atiqur Rahman, while Prof. Dr. A F M Nazmus Sadat served as the coordinator for both teams.

This achievement not only highlights the commitment of the Department of Pharmacy towards quality enhancement but also strengthens the university’s position in promoting a culture of excellence through active student engagement.

In his inaugural speech, the Honorable Vice Chancellor said, “Raising public awareness is the most important step in preventing dengue. We must eliminate breeding sites of Aedes mosquitoes by keeping our surroundings clean. Prevention, not only treatment, is the key to protecting ourselves from such crises.” He also urged all faculty members, officers, staff, and students to play an active role in extending the benefits of this campaign to the community level.

The first session of the event featured an informative presentation on dengue prevention, symptoms, and treatment by Dr. Enamul Haque, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He emphasized the importance of early detection, proper medical care, and spreading awareness at the household level. Professor Dr. A.F.M. Nazmus Sadat, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Chairman of the Department of Pharmacy, in his brief remarks, highlighted effective communication strategies for public awareness and stressed the importance of remaining calm and taking prompt action if infected with dengue. The event was attended by the Deans of all faculties, Department Chairmen, faculty members, officers, staff, and students from different departments. The first session was conducted by Mr. Md. Abdur Rashid, Chairman of the Department of Business Administration.

In the second session, the Honorable Vice Chancellor led a “Campus and Surroundings Cleanliness Drive” along with all members of the university family. He emphasized that this initiative should begin from everyone’s own home and spread throughout society. During the session, detailed discussions were held on the future directions of pharmacy education in Bangladesh. It was highlighted that within the next five to six years, at least 200,000 graduate pharmacists will be required to serve in retail and model pharmacies across the country.
The Honorable Health Secretary Md Saidur Rahman assured all participants that the process of creating approximately 2,000 hospital pharmacist positions in government hospitals is already underway, and recruitment will begin soon.

He further emphasized that the government is actively considering the introduction of a “BCS Pharmacy Cadre,” similar to other existing health cadres.

During the open discussion session, representatives from various esteemed universities proposed increasing student intake capacity and establishing a Central Research Laboratory under the supervision of the Bangladesh Pharmacy Council.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Mahbubul Haque, Secretary of the Bangladesh Pharmacy Council; Mr. Naser Shahriar Zahid, a distinguished industrialist; Professor Dr. Chowdhury Mahmud Hasan, former Dean of the Department of Pharmacy, University of Dhaka; and Professor Dr. Abdur Rashid. They shared their valuable insights and recommendations regarding the advancement of pharmacy education and the enhancement of professional competencies in the field.
